Goals: To use my combined experience in health care as well as in addiction and recovery, to educate other professionals, non-professionals, and students, in developing healthy, well rounded, lifestyles. This education is intended to prevent the development of substance abuse problems whenever possible. The education is also intended to assist individuals to seek appropriate consultation and treatment modalities if substance abuse should become an issue in their lives, or the lives of family members or colleagues.

 

Employment History

 

1978-1979, Staff Nurse, Emergency Room, The Christ Hospital Cincinnati, Ohio Staff Nurse, 750 bed private hospital Emergency Room

 

1979-1981, Student, Aultman Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia Canton, Ohio Trained in all aspects of anesthesia including: Preoperative assessment, designing and implementing intraoperative anesthesia care plan, postoperative assessment and discharge of the patient. Techniques learned included: intraoperative sedation and analgesia, general anesthesia (mask and endotracheal), major regional anesthesia (epidural, caudal, subarachnoid block, nerve blocks). Also received training in insertion and management of cardiovascular monitoring (CVP, Swan-Ganz catheter, intra-arterial monitoring).

 

1981-1982, Staff Nurse Anesthetist, Aultman Hospital Canton, Ohio, Involved in all aspects of anesthesia for an 800+ bed hospital. Preoperative assessment, developing and implementing complete intra-operative anesthesia plan for general, gynecological, neurological, cardiovascular, thoracic, obstetrical and trauma patients. Also managed postoperative care and discharge of post-anesthesia patients. Team leader for in-house "code-blue" teams.

 

1981-1982, Clinical Instructor, Aultman Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia Canton, Ohio Responsible for clinical supervision of first year nurse anesthesia students.

 

1982-1985, Staff Nurse Anesthetist, Jewish Hospital Cincinnati, Ohio Responsibilities included: pre-operative assessment of the surgical/obstetrical/ trauma patient. Planning and implementing the anesthesia plan of care, including sedation, general anesthesia, and spinal, caudal, and other major nerve blocks. Post-operative assessment and management of the post-anesthesia surgical and obstetrical patient.

 

1986-1989, Part-time Staff Nurse Anesthetist, Cincinnati Eye Institute Cincinnati, Ohio Pre-operative assessment, intra-operative management and post-operative management and discharge of the patient requiring surgery for phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implant, radial keratotomy and other surgical procedures on the eye. Trained and performed retrobulbar and peribulbar blocks.

 

1985-1991, Staff Nurse Anesthetist, Miami Valley Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Level III Obstetrical Center. Dayton, Ohio Responsibilities included those posted above as well as chief CRNA, obstetrical anesthesia department.

 

1991-Present, Founder and President, Midwest Anesthesia Consultants Cincinnati, Ohio Consulting and continuing education for nursing and anesthesia professionals. Primary areas of focus include: obstetrical anesthesia, conscious sedation for non-anesthesia professionals, post-operative assessment and care of the post-anesthesia patient, pain management consulting for home care and hospice patients as well as placing peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC). Provided training on the insertion and management of PICC lines.
